What are Dental Implants?

Unlike a full or partial denture that will only be connected at the gum with a glue-like adhesive, a dental implant is a replacement for one or more missing teeth which is actually placed into your jaw and acts like the root of a tooth. It is made from medical grade titanium that, once healed, will have a dental crown inserted on top to act as the new chewing surface and appear like a natural tooth. Once all of the pieces are in place, you will be able to eat normally, and have a beaming smile that is permanent!

If you have ever dealt with any type of denture, you will understand the frustration of having to put a denture in, dealing with food fragments getting in between the denture and gum, taking it out, and cleaning it nightly. With a dental implant you no longer have to deal with any of those issues along with the embarrassment if your denture accidentally pops out during the day.

This technology has been in dentistry for a long time, and with all of those years there have been better techniques and methods to have them inserted. And as mentioned above, if you have an interest in getting dental implants in Indianapolis then going to a periodontist is the best option to ensure proper installation. Dr. Edwards has spent extra years specializing in periodontics which allows them to be able to understand dental implants more, and better methods of installation. Additionally, Dr. Edwards has gained extra certifications to install multiple implant systems and IV sedation.

If there are any additional questions or concerns that you might have, we encourage you to schedule an appointment to see Dr. Edwards and see if dental implants are an option you want to consider. We look forward to you visiting our office and talking with our doctors and staff.
