Holiday greetings from all of us at the office of Dr. Edwards! During this time of the year, we are reminded of how lucky we are to have such amazing, loyal patients who make us smile every day. 2016 has been an exciting time for our practice, and we have been happy to serve new patients, offer great technologies, and to give the gift of smiles that people can truly be proud of. We absolutely love getting to know you and your families, and we are excited to keep offering periodontal care to the greater Indianapolis area. From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to wish all of you a wonderful holiday season and a happy New Year.
Holiday Dental Tips
The holidays are filled with treats, presents, and events that don’t occur at any other time of year, which is why we wouldn’t be doing our part as a dental practice without offering a few holiday dental tips. Here are just a few pieces of advice to keep your smile healthy and comfortable all season long.
Maintain Good Oral Hygiene
Although proper dental care is important all year long, it is crucial during the holiday season, when treats are abundant and teeth can get dirty fast. Focus on maintaining good oral health by brushing carefully twice a day. Floss every night or morning, and don’t forget to rinse carefully. If your teeth feel dirty after a meal, brush your teeth with a travel toothbrush or rinse your teeth with water to remove sugary residues and dilute acids.
Avoid Treat Overload
The bacteria that live in your mouth create acids that can destroy your dental enamel and cause decay. Unfortunately, every time you eat, these “acid attacks” can last for as long as twenty minutes. To avoid damage, limit snacking and “treat overload.” Instead, enjoy your meals and stay away from treats in between.
One of the best ways to prevent holiday dental problems is scheduling preventive care before you start enjoying your time away from work. During appointments with Dr. Edwards, your periodontist in Indianapolis will carefully evaluate your smile for inflammation and damage, proactively addressing concerns before they ruin your holiday.
Once again, all of us here at Implant Dentistry and Periodontics want to wish you a magical holiday season. Please let our office know if you encounter any dental emergencies or simply want to make an appointment for a checkup. We are here for you and we appreciate your support.
