How are the Mini Dental Implants Placed?
The entire mini dental implant placement procedure can be done in roughly one hour. Usually, in the case of lower jaw implants, four mini dental implants will be placed about 5mm apart. Prior to inserting the implants, Implant Dentistry and Periodontics will use several different diagnostic and planning tools to find the optimal positions to implant them.
Here is a quick summary of the mini dental implant placement procedure:
- We administer a mild anesthetic first to numb the specific areas involved.
- A tiny hole is drilled in the jawbone to situate each implant.
- Each implant is then screwed into place and tightened with a dental winged wrench.
- Finally, a dental ratchet wrench is used to fully stabilize the mini dental implants.
- The denture tray is measured against the mini-implants and marks are made to indicate where the implants will align up.
- The denture is sent to the dental lab to have the holes drilled to accommodate the implants.
Once the denture has been modified, it can be affixed to the implants. The rubber O-ring on each implant snaps into the designated spot on the denture, and your denture then rests snugly on the gum tissue. Mini dental implants hold the denture comfortably in a tight-fitting way for quite some time.
