When it comes to your natural teeth, we always want to try to preserve them as long as we can. However, in some cases, you may need a tooth extracted. Whether your tooth is damaged, decayed, cracked, or needs to be removed for a spacing issue, we are here to ensure that your extraction is as smooth and painless as possible. While getting a tooth removed may seem intimidating, you will feel no pain during the procedure and we will ensure you are well-informed for a quick and safe recovery.
The extraction process is fairly straightforward. For a simple extraction, we will numb the tooth, gum, and bone around the area. We will then loosen the tooth with a dental instrument called an elevator and use forceps to remove it. During this process, you may feel a bit of pressure, but overall you will experience no pain. The numbness will wear off after the procedure and then the healing process will begin. After your extraction we will let you know how long the area may take to heal and what to expect in the days following. Any discomfort that you have after your extraction can be subdued with over-the-counter pain medications.
Surgical extractions are slightly more involved and usually require anesthesia. A surgical extraction is performed with cases that are more complex, such as wisdom teeth removal, because the teeth are below the surface and harder to reach. This procedure will also be painless, you but you will need a friend or family member to drive you home afterwards.
