Frequently Asked Questions
With Periodontics & Implant Dentistry

At Implant Dentistry and Periodontics, we offer a wide range of periodontal and dental implant services. Our caring and compassionate team has one collective priority and that is your smile.

What is a Periodontist?

Periodontics is one of 12 dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association. It focuses on the health of your gums, the bone supporting your teeth, and the placement and maintenance of dental implants. After completing dental school, periodontists undergo three additional years of specialized training to learn how to diagnose and treat conditions such as gingivitis, periodontitis, and gum recession.

While general dentists can treat many common gum problems, more complicated cases may benefit from the experience of a periodontist. Treatment can involve anything from deep cleanings to gum grafting, bone regeneration, or periodontal surgery. Periodontists also work closely with general dentists when patients need dental implants or other restorative care. Beyond treating existing problems, they help patients manage their gum health and reduce the risk of further damage to their teeth and supporting bone.

Will It Hurt?

We will be as gentle as possible. The periodontal exam can be completed with little or no discomfort.

Do I Need X-Rays?

We will need current periodontal X-rays in order to see disease not otherwise visible. If your referring dentist has taken X-rays, you may request that they be forwarded to us.

Will Insurance Cover The Cost?

Dental insurance policies often cover periodontal treatment. Please bring all medical and dental benefit information and cards to your examination appointment. Upon request, we will submit a claim to predetermine your insurance benefits; however, this is not required by most plans.
